Royal Gorge Region Itinerary

Family Adventure at the Royal Gorge

Day 1

Morning
Go on a rafting adventure and enjoy the morning on either a Royal Gorge Trip or a Bighorn Sheep Canyon trip.  Plan to arrive early by 8 a.m. as the 1st raft trips tend to leave by 9 a.m. Keep in mind, there is paperwork to fill out and life vests, wetsuits, and helmets to hand out.

Afternoon
Go for a jeep tour. Discover Shelf RoadSkyline Drive, and learn about the dinosaurs. Don’t forget to take along some water.

Evening
Set up camp and start the campfire up for hamburgers.

Day 2

Morning
Arrive at either 7 a.m. or 9 a.m. for an ATV Tour in the Texas Creek area, a great activity the entire family can enjoy. From the grandchildren to great grandparents, every age can participate in this outdoor adventure. Hear the Indian stories, see some interesting rock formations, and view the wildlife in the area.

Afternoon
Take a zipline tour. What a rush to fly across an open valley. This is not for the faint-hearted. Please note, you’ll have to walk and climb through this attraction.

Evening
This is the perfect time of day to take a segway tour around Cañon City.

Day 3

Morning
Take a train ride through the Royal Gorge. See the class IV rapids, wave to rafters as they pass you, and look up and see the Royal Gorge Bridge.

Afternoon
Horseback ride in the hills behind Cañon City, where the peace and quiet will embrace you.

Evening
Head home and call in sick so you can rest up from the weekend and have time to plan your next fun adventure in the Royal Gorge Region.

Explore the history of the area, visit historic townsites, on interpretive mining history trails, or visit a dinosaur museum.

Snow
Snow

Go skiing or snowboarding at Monarch Mountain or Ski Cooper, find miles of groomed trails for snowmobiling, XC skis, snowshoes or fat bike.

Water
Water

Enjoy float trips, kayaking, whitewater parks for kayakers, river surfers and SUPs, or convenient fishing access points and high alpine lakes.

Mountains
Mountains

The Central Mountains have the highest concentration of 14ers in Colorado, old mining roads and hundreds of miles of trails.

Experience an adrenaline-filled activity at a zipline or adventure parks, or spend a day relaxing day with a round of golf or soaking in a natural hot springs.
